I just wanted to write a quick email to thank everyone at The Laser and Skin Clinic. Also a special thank you the nurse - Anna for all your help. Four weeks have passed from the biomimetic treatment for stretch marks on my abdomen and I am feeling great!! I can now look at myself in the mirror again with confidence and can’t wait to get out there and buy some new bikinis for my holiday in July. I think my end results will be even better than my original expectations which I’m extremely happy about! I can’t thank you enough. Thanks Again. Sharon

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks can appear anywhere on the body where the skin has been stretched, and they often occur as a result of weight gain. They are most likely to appear in places where fat is stored, including the abdomen, breasts, upper arms, thighs and buttocks. They pose absolutely no health risk and don't compromise your body's ability to function healthily.

We have three layers of skin: the epidermis (outer layer), the dermis (middle layer), and the subcutaneous stratum (innermost layer). Stretch marks occur in the dermis, the resilient middle layer that helps the skin retain its shape. When the dermis is constantly stretched over time, the skin becomes less elastic and the small connective fibers within it break. The result is what we know as stretch marks.

Pregnant women aren't alone in being susceptible. Adolescents experiencing growth spurts and athletes - especially bodybuilders who practice strenuous and repetitive exercise - are likely to get stretch marks, as is anyone who gains or loses a significant amount of weight in a short period of time.

Treating stretch marks has always been a very difficult task. When stretch marks first appear they look pinky-red and slightly raised. They then increase in length and acquire a dark purple colour and over time, become white and flat. The latest proven technology to improve and reduce the appearance of stretch marks includes; Ablative and Non-ablative Fractional Laser, Laser Skin Tightening and Micro needling treatments.

More and more people are opting for stretch mark removal in order to regain skin confidence. At The Laser and Skin Clinic we take pride in offering the latest proven technology to achieve the best results. Whatever the age and size of your stretch marks, our skin specialists can help to significantly improve the appearance of your stretch marks in as little as three treatments.

Fractional Laser – Ablative and Non-Ablative

Treating stretch marks with ablative and non-ablative fractional laser has shown significant improvements in the appearance and texture of mature (white) striae. To lessen the appearance of older stretch marks, the skin is re-wounded using an ablative laser technique. The body then heals the wounds from the inside out, depositing collagen and elastin to fill in what was not there. Results have shown a greater than 50% improvement in the appearance and reduction of stretch marks. See Affirm Laser Rejuvenation and Active-Deep Fx Laser Resurfacing for more information.

Laser Skin Tightening – Reaction Radiofrequency

Another emerging treatment for improving stretch marks is by using radiofrequency skin tightening. Although this technology was originally designed to tighten the skin Reaction’s Radiofrequency has shown some promising results for also reducing the appearance of stretch marks. Laser skin tightening helps reduce stretch marks as the laser energy reacts with the deep layers of the skin, causing the collagen to tighten, helping the skin to contract. The laser energy can be seen as “kick-starting” a natural healing process that helps to stimulate fresh, healthy tissue, resulting in smoother skin. See Reaction Radiofrequency - Skin Tightening for more information.

Dermapen - Micro- needling

Dermapen micro needling involves multiple tiny needles that vertically pierce the dermis and epidermis of the skin to stimulate a new blood supply to the area and increase the flow of tissue growth factors and collagen production. The skin of the epidermis effectively thickens and stretch marks appear less noticeable and smoother as a result. 4-6 treatments are recommended at 4 week intervals to achieve the best results. See Dermapen for more information.
